What do we scaffold in Didcot?
Didcot is a garden town with a very high share of new-build homes alongside its Victorian railway terraces and 1960s to 80s estates. These are the jobs we scaffold most often:
- Roof repairs and re-roofing. A platform at the eaves with guardrails and toe boards. See roof access scaffolding.
- Chimney repairs and repointing. A scaffold to the eaves plus a platform around the stack, from £250.
- Extensions and loft conversions. Scaffolding that rises with the brickwork, often with a temporary roof while the old roof is open.
- Solar panels. A single elevation to the eaves with edge protection. Didcot has a lot of PV-ready roofs on the newer estates.
- Repointing, rendering and brickwork. A full-height scaffold with boards close to the wall, with ties chosen so new render is not marked.
- Windows, fascias, soffits, gutters and solar panels. Usually one or two elevations for a week or two.
- Shopfronts and offices. Commercial scaffolding planned around trading hours and pedestrians.
- Short, low jobs. A scaffold tower from £30 is often cheaper than a fixed scaffold. We will tell you at the survey if a tower would do.

How much does scaffolding cost in Didcot?
Most house scaffolding in Didcot costs between £400 and £2,500, depending on the size of the house, how many sides are scaffolded and how long it stays up. These are guide prices for a standard hire period. Your quote is fixed once we have seen the property.
| House or job | What is scaffolded | Guide price |
|---|---|---|
| One side of a house | Front or rear elevation | £400 to £700 total |
| Two-storey terraced house | Front and back | £700 to £900 a month |
| Two-storey semi-detached | Three sides | £850 to £1,200 a month |
| Two-storey detached | All four sides | £1,000 to £1,500 a month |
| Chimney scaffold | Eaves plus stack platform | From £250 |
| Loft conversion | Roof access, often two or three sides | £1,000 to £2,000 or more |
| Scaffold tower | Hire for low, short jobs | From £30 |
Four things move the price: the height and length of the scaffold, how easy the access is, how long you need it, and whether it stands on the pavement. A pavement licence from Oxfordshire County Council costs £180 for the first week, or £220 on a bus route, and we apply for it on your behalf. Most Didcot estate homes have a drive or parking court, so a licence is normally only needed on Broadway, Station Road and the older terraced streets.
Scaffolding for Didcot's new estates and railway terraces
Didcot’s housing is newer than most of Oxfordshire, which changes how we plan a scaffold:
- Great Western Park, Ladygrove and Valley Park. Mostly timber-frame or brick-and-block homes from the 1990s onwards, often with render and PV-ready roofs. We use ties and protection that do not mark render or affect a builder’s warranty.
- Shared drives and parking courts. Many new-build homes share access. At the survey we plan where the scaffold stands and where the lorry parks so neighbours are not blocked in.
- Management company rules. Some estates have management companies with rules about works and shared landscaping. We will tell you if anyone needs notifying.
- Victorian and Edwardian terraces. Around Station Road, Broadway and Northbourne, rear access is often through the house and front scaffolds stand on the pavement under licence.
- Conservation areas and thatch. Northbourne, East Hagbourne and Blewbury are conservation areas with timber-framed and thatched cottages that need careful ties and edge protection.
- Commercial sites. We scaffold units and offices at Milton Park, Harwell Campus and the town centre, planned around working hours.
How scaffold hire works in Didcot
- Free site survey. We look at the property, the access and the work your trades are doing.
- Fixed written quote. One price covering delivery, erection, the agreed hire period and removal.
- Pavement licence, if needed. We apply to Oxfordshire County Council, which asks for at least five working days’ notice.
- Erection. Most houses in Didcot are scaffolded in under a day.
- Handover and inspections. The scaffold is checked before first use and at least every 7 days after that.
- Removal. Tell us when your trades have finished and we take it down.

Scaffolding around Didcot
Didcot has grown fast as part of Didcot Garden Town, and we work on everything from the older terraces near Didcot Parkway station to newer homes at Great Western Park and Ladygrove. We also cover Harwell, Blewbury, East Hagbourne, Milton and Sutton Courtenay.
Most of our Didcot jobs on newer houses are extensions, loft conversions, roof repairs, solar panel installs and fascia replacements, where the scaffold has to fit small front gardens and shared driveways. We also scaffold commercial units on business parks such as Milton Park.
Didcot falls under South Oxfordshire District Council for planning, while any scaffold on the public highway needs a licence from Oxfordshire County Council, which we arrange.
Scaffolding in Didcot FAQs
Do you provide scaffolding in Didcot?
Yes. Premier Scaffolding Oxford puts up domestic and commercial scaffolding across Didcot and the OX11 postcode area. We work from our yard at Unit 27, M40 Business Centre, Wheatley (OX33 1XW), carry out a free site survey before quoting, and do not charge upfront fees.
How much does scaffolding cost in Didcot?
A two-storey terraced house typically costs £700 to £900 a month, a semi-detached £850 to £1,200 and a detached house £1,000 to £1,500. A single elevation for solar panels is usually £400 to £700 in total, a chimney scaffold starts from £250 and scaffold tower hire from £30. We confirm a fixed price after a free site survey.
Do I need permission from my management company on Great Western Park or Ladygrove?
Scaffolding on your own plot does not need council permission, but some estates have management companies with rules about works and shared areas. Check your deeds or ask the management company, and tell us at the survey so we keep the scaffold inside your boundary.
Can you scaffold a new-build with a shared drive or parking court?
Yes. We plan the footprint and the delivery so neighbours keep their access, and on tight plots we often build in from the garden side and keep the front scaffold small.
Will scaffolding affect my NHBC or builder warranty?
Not if it is done properly. On homes under warranty we use ties and protection that do not mark render, cladding or new brickwork, and can use freestanding designs where no fixings are wanted. The warranty terms apply to the work itself, which is separate from the scaffold.
Do I need a scaffold licence in Didcot?
Only if any part of the scaffold stands on or over a public pavement or road, for example on Broadway or the older terraced streets. The licence comes from Oxfordshire County Council, not South Oxfordshire District Council. It costs £180 for the first week, or £220 on a bus route, and needs at least five working days' notice. We apply for it on your behalf.
Are there restrictions in the Northbourne, East Hagbourne or Blewbury conservation areas?
Scaffolding is temporary and does not need planning permission. If the property is listed, thatched or in a conservation area, check with South Oxfordshire District Council whether the building work itself needs consent. We plan ties and protection for thatch and timber frames.
How quickly can you get to Didcot?
Our yard in Wheatley is about 20 miles from Didcot via the A34, usually 30 to 35 minutes. After the free survey and your fixed quote, most houses are scaffolded in under a day.
